Record 005 of The Space Odditorium calls for some interesting background props. Specifically Chris wanted some propaganda posters reimagined with aliens, or at least what we thought aliens look like. My journey into references for this panel lead me down some interesting paths. Specifically the anti-Japanese posters of WWI. The ridiculousness of them and their portrayal of our fellow human beings is off the charts, almost humorous they're so sensational. Yet sadly at the time they were effective at spreading fear and hate. I hope some day we'll look back on everything that is going on today, and laugh at just another temporary low in human awareness.

Hopefully you like color, cause I do! If you haven't noticed Space Odditorium uses lots. For me S.O. was an opportunity to put together the many different mediums I love to work in from a simple piece of charcoal to the myriad colors that watercolors offer. I change it up a lot to try and capture the essence of each scene and play off the strengths of each tool. Here's a promo image I made with a heavy dose of watercolor and pastels. Hope you like it! Record 004: Escape From the Tubeways has landed!
She’s mad as hell and she’s not going to take it anymore. Major Trauma has had enough of the Full House Family and she’s headbutting her way out of the Tubeways atop RAAC Henderson III. There’s more edge-of-your-seat action in this issue of The Space Odditorium than a really bad 1990’s B-movie. It’ll blow you away! record 004 of The Space Odditorium will be available on Comixology on Wednesday 11/29.

For some reason I've always favored the use of markers and pens in my work and I don't really understand why. This dawned on me at a con once while talking to John Livesay, an artist that worked on a Doctor Strange comic I loved. He talked about the use of quills and brushes like they were a given. When I asked him why he'd use those old tools when pens and markers existed, he looked at me for a second like I'd yet to taste ice cream. After all these years of thinking I knew the tool for me I decided to cave and give quills and brushes a chance. The dynamics they offer you in your lines are incomparable to any other inking tool I've ever used. Little by little they proved to be a truly irreplaceable addition to my stable of tools. I rarely ink an organic image with anything else now. Although markers and pens still have their place, and in The Space Odditorium I frequently switch around with all my inking tools to get the variation the different tools have to offer.
It's a totally 90's throwback! Dave embodies the skills of Jim lee's leaping Wolverine in this illustration of Major Trauma!
